C.A.R.E. Africa was started in 2014 by a Nigerian national, Emmanuel Salako and a SIM Missionary from Louisville Kentucky Patrice Miles. Two 14 year olds, Success and Wale, came to ECWA Hospital Egbe to work with the temporary laborers revitalizing the hospital. Construction Manager, Lenny Miles, saw how small they were and asked their ages. Once he found out how old they were he told them they were too young and needed to be in school. They told him the reason they wanted to work was so they could pay school fees.
Schools in Egbe, Nigeria are very important. Jobs are scarce in this small bush town so you must be able to read and write. C.A.R.E Africa was created to help empower kids through an education and discipleship. We later found a need for widows, abandoned mothers and the unemployed.
