Joy was initially denied admission to C.A.R.E. Africa because she had 2 living parents. The family was in need (as many people in Egbe are), but they were not voiceless and exhausted. The following year, Joy’s father died. The family moved to a smaller home and were grieving. The mother was not able to provide for the kids and school fees were not a priority. Several people visited the C.A.R.E. office from the community and urged us to help. After viewing her new situation of widowhood with 5 children, Joy was accepted into the program at 7 years old.
