Segun and his sister joined C.A.R.E. Africa in late 2016. Several years ago they were abandoned by their mom and dad at Grandma’s house. Their aunt, Nurse Olafe at Egbe hospital, has been supporting them. She had over extended herself in this community and owed school fees for them at George Campion, a local school. If you met her, she was always exhausted.

The conditions at Grandma's house were disturbing. The auntie who helped grandma raise them was very stern and it was evident she mistreated them. Grandma could barely stand, so Auntie was doing all the child raising and was obviously not happy about it.

The two kids were admitted into the C.A.R.E. Africa school and program on the condition that they moved into Nurse Olafe’s home. Her home has a much better environment for the kids. Her husband refused at first, but after we talked to him he obliged. We were very happy to have placed them in a better environment. In 2017, it was discovered she had colon cancer and needed an operation that would leave her with a colostomy. She refused to have the surgery and passed away. After her death, unfortunately both children moved back to Grandma's. We continue to pray for better conditions in that home or for different placement options to arise.

Segun is very intelligent and full of potential. He currently has the high honor of attending an academy in Jos that will prepare him to attend university abroad. He lives there with one other C.A.R.E. student and a child mentor. Please consider sponsoring the cost for Segun to live in Jos and attend this prestigious school. Thank you!
