Segun is a single orphan. His mother died and the father is unknown. Segun lives with his grandmother who is deaf and mute. He is typically fending for himself or finding help from a neighbor. He was enrolled in the local public school but when tested for entry to C.A.R.E. Africa, he could not read or do any math. Segun and his grandma live in Oke Ere which is a small town about 30 minutes from Egbe. This town is much more rural with only 2 schools and 1 church. The education is very poor there and most of the children cannot read or write well. It has required much hard work for Segun to catch up to grade level, but with the help from our Foundations teacher and counselor, he is! We knew God would help him.
Students from Oke Ere require a sponsorship rate of $49 a month, or $588 annually, which is slightly higher than an Egbe student's sponsorship. The additional funds provide daily transportation to and from his grandma's house to our C.A.R.E. Center. Your investment is making a difference in Segun's life by providing him with food, an education, and a chance to break the cycle of poverty.
